911 Rolling Memorial To Team Green

Last week, I embarked on a mission to capture video footage of what a typical round in our trucks looks like, and my journey turned out to be both unexpected and rewarding.
Upon arriving at the Moorhead, MN office, I was warmly welcomed by Roy and his colleague. Originally scheduled for a ride-along with another driver, I was thrilled when Roy stepped in due to a scheduling conflict. As we made our way to his truck, Roy proudly pointed out its number, highlighting his deep connection to his bright green rig.
As we traveled north and I gathered video content, I delved into Roy’s life outside of Transystems. He shared that he spends his off-time devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren, reflecting his strong family values. However, the real highlight of our journey was when Roy recounted his experience driving a 9/11 memorial traveling display. I was honored to learn a bit about this in a previous conversation and was eager to hear more details. His vivid descriptions of this tribute, honoring both the fallen and the rescuers, were profoundly moving. It was a privilege to hear Roy’s stories about bringing this significant piece of history to life.
The rolling memorial truck, created to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks, was conceived by John Holmgren from Shafer, Minnesota. Inspired by the song “Have You Forgotten” by Darryl Worley, John transformed his rig into a rolling mural. The truck garnered attention from celebrities like Jimmy Buffett and Reba McEntire and was invited to Ground Zero for a special ceremony in 2004.
Throughout his 38 years of driving, Roy has hauled many types of precious cargo, but it’s clear that his time behind the wheel of the Rolling Memorial remains the highlight of his career. For those interested in learning more about this traveling mural, a quick search for “The Rolling Memorial” will reveal why it holds such a special place in Roy’s heart.     -𝒦𝓇𝒾𝓈𝓉𝑒𝓃, Transystems RRV
